The pattern to avoid
The App Store's "free QR scanner" shelf is crowded with apps that interrupt every scan with a full-screen ad, then push a steep weekly subscription. Scanning is a solved, free problem — never pay weekly for it, and never sit through ads for it.

Do I need a QR app at all?
For scanning one code, no — your iPhone's Camera does it well, and that's the honest starting point. Apps earn their place for creating codes, keeping a scan history, and design/export control the Camera doesn't have.
Why do so many QR apps have terrible reviews?
The category is notorious for two patterns: interstitial ads after every scan, and steep weekly subscriptions dressed up as free trials. Neither has anything to do with reading a QR code — check the subscription terms before trusting any "free" scanner.
What is the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?
